The Rhymes of Tertius: Daily Devotional

About this book

The Bible is like a jewelry box holding treasures of immeasurable value. For instance, John 3: 16 can be compared to the hope diamond. It surpasses all others. Genealogy listings of who begat whom could be compared to mere gravel. Though maybe not life-changing, it serves its purpose. We cannot improve on GodaEUR(tm)s Word (it is what it is), but God has called us to be laborers together with Him (1 Corinthians 3: 9). Just like a priceless diamond simply looks like a rock until it is shaped and put in the proper light, His Word is almost always hidden until the Holy Spirit reveals its worth, and sometimes another person can share its impact on their lives or even a looked over by most observation that puts it in a different light. Example, the shortest verse is John 11: 35: aEURoeJesus wept.aEUR My take is that He had to bring Lazarus back. IaEUR(tm)ve seen many people surprised by this. A sermon is for the purpose of putting a shine on scripture, bringing out the beauty, revealing the intent of the message, making it understandable. This collection of poetry is basically quick-read minisermons given to the author by the Holy Spirit. Tertius was a scribe who wrote the Book of Romans while Paul dictated. The authoraEUR(tm)s education in poetry has only come from bathroom walls and Dr. Seuss. He credits God with its entire content. The style is down-to-earth, but its message is out of this world. It is his hope that believers will gain a closer relationship with God and unbelievers will begin a journey that leaves behind all the hopelessness, misery, darkness, and suffering of the soul that accompanies life apart from God (that he has experienced firsthand) and begin a joyous walk with Jesus toward the Promised Land. He hopes it entertains you and prays that it changes you for the better.

New Year’s Revolution
January 1
I’ve made up my mind; I’ve taken a vow,
Next year I won’t do the things I do now.
A fresh start is just the thing that I need,
I’ll have only good thoughts and do only good deeds.
Next year will be easy ’cause it isn’t here yet,
And I’ll do just what I say, on that you may bet.
I’ll turn unto Jesus; He’ll cleanse me from sin,
And into my heart I’ll let Him come in.
I’ll give Him my all and hold nothing back,
My life will then roll upon the right track.
But a little voice whispers inside of my head,
ā€œBy next year, my friend, you just might be dead.ā€
Today is the first day of the rest of your life,
And every day is a waste that you spend without Christ.
Why waste an hour, a minute or less?
When every second with Him is a second you’re blessed.
Take your sin to the cross where the pardon is free,
Where the Savior’s paid the debt for you and for me.
He will fill you with power that comes with His Name,
Those who don’t use it, oh, what a shame!
His Word will bring peace to the most troubled soul,
It’s worth more than the world and all of its gold.
He said He will answer all when they pray,
How foolish to put that off for a day.
Today is the day, for tomorrow knows not,
With all of your money another day can’t be bought.
The only good thing that the devil employs
Is intentions for tomorrow that he truly enjoys.
For what we put off till next year may never get done,
But his fight for men’s souls is already won.
When the earth makes its orbit to this same spot next year,
Will you promise God the same thing He now hears?
The world turns, the years burn and slip by so fast,
And one day your time here will be a thing of the past.
What will you have to show for your days on the earth?
Don’t put off till next year, what you need to do first.
Heaven’s eternal, its where there’s no tomorrow,
And time spent without Jesus, is mankind’s greatest sorrow!
Tertius
In the time of my favor I heard you and in the day of salvation I helped you.
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
—2 Corinthians 6:2
A Note about ā€œNew Year’s Revolutionā€
New Year’s Day, when the earth revolves around the sun and comes to this same spot next year, you will probably be doing the same things you swore off of, unless of course you have called on a Higher Power. But if you are calling on a Higher Power, you don’t need to wait on a New Year. Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
