Zeit meines Lebens habe ich Pop geliebt und gehasst. Pop war hier Befreiung und da Unterdrückung, hier Explosion der Wahrhaftigkeit und dort Implosion der Verlogenheit. Pop bewahrte das innere Kind und förderte die Vergreisung, Pop rebelliert und korrumpiert. Pop konstruiert die kleinen Unterschiede der Klassen und setzt sich über die gesetzten Grenzen hinweg. Pop ist universal, regional und national; Pop macht einfach alles mit, denn es ist der Ausdruck des Kapitalismus in der Demokratie, wie es der Ausdruck der Demokratie im Kapitalismus ist. Ohne Pop würde es diese prekäre Einheit gar nicht geben, und ohne Pop wären die Spannungen zwischen beiden nicht auszuhalten. Zugleich aber reagiert Pop auf die Brüche und Widersprüche, wie es keine "Hochkultur" und keine Wissenschaft kann. Jede Erkenntnis und vor allem Selbsterkenntnis einer Gesellschaft ist in ihrem popkulturellen Sektor "irgendwie" schon da. Pop ist das Klügste und gleichzeitig das Dümmste, was wir haben und was wir kennen.
