Esta es una recopilación de varias fuentes primarias de la Biblioteca Nacional de España sobre el asedio que pusieron los franceses a Fuenterrabía en 1638, y el socorro de las armas españolas.En poquito más de 2 meses los franceses perdieron unos 11.000 hombres sobre el cerco y en el socorro, muertos, heridos, presos, y unos cuantos fugados. La principal fuente es la obra del P. Joseph Moretto de la compañía de Jesús, y que en su día tradujo en nuestro idioma castellano el P. Fr. Manuel de San Juan, lector de theología moral de Santa María la Real de Nájera, entre otros cargos. Después de esta detallada narración traemos varias fuentes más sobre el socorro.Con balas de plata, cuando se acabó el plomo para las balas el alcalde Butrón tenía plata para hacer balas para el último asalto que venía de los franceses, el que iba a ser asalto general por varias partes, y muy posiblemente las tenía ya hechas, balas de plata, pero el mismo día que iban a dar el gran asalto sobrevino el socorro de la plaza.
