Hawaii

The Hawaiian Islands were formed by volcanic activity,

In the mid-Pacific, volcanoes were formed amidst a tectonic plate,

Magna rose upward from the earth through the seafloor,

Creating the Hawaiian Islands, of which there are primarily eight.

These islands have long been praised for their natural beauty,

Hawaii is one of the world’s top spots for tourists to stay;

The remote location adds to Hawaii’s desirability,

The climate and sun-kissed beaches enhance the splendor displayed.

Each island has a nickname relating to its identity,

These added descriptions are metaphorically used;

These nicknames may add to an island’s image,

With unique traits, these islands are not easily confused.

Oahu is known as the Gathering Place,

It is the social and economic hub in the state;

Due to the existence of a natural harbor,

Chosen by old Hawaiian Royalty to settle in and inflate.

Oahu was then developed and enriched greatly,

It’s the island where ancient and modern worlds collide;

Oahu is home to some of the world’s most famous landmarks,

It’s also where the majority of the state’s inhabitants reside.

Maui is known as the Valley Isle,

The mountains and forests are plush, plentiful, and green;

Volcanic eruptions have made the soil fertile for plant growth,

This island provides you with spectacular sights to be seen.

Maui is home to Haleakala, the largest inactive volcano in the world,

In Hawaiian, the word Haleakala means “House of the Sun”;

However, winter temps at the summit drop well below freezing,

Which can provide some occasional snow-covered fun.

Kauai is known as the Garden Isle,

It’s the oldest in the Hawaiian Island chain;

Kauai is the northernmost and most fertile island,

Lush tropical beauty and rainforests help Kauai live up to its name.

Be sure to visit Hanalei on Kauai’s northern coast,

There you can view the amazing Na Pali Cliffs;

They’ve been a famous backdrop for Hollywood movies,
