Chapter 1
Is It Important Who You Believe He [Jesus] Is?
Let’s begin examining scriptures for the answers.
Isaiah 43:3 says, ā€œFor I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom.ā€ (See Exodus 20:2.)
This scripture calls the LORD thy God ā€œthe Holy one of Israel,ā€ and we know that the Holy one of Israel is Jesus. This scripture also calls the LORD thy God ā€œthy Saviour,ā€ and we know that Jesus is our Saviour. This scripture is saying that Jesus is the LORD, thy God, and gave Egypt for thy ransom. Remember when God rescued Moses and the Hebrews from Pharaoh. That was Jesus! (Read Ex. 12:51, 14:4, 18, 22–31)
In John 5:46, Jesus says, Moses wrote of Him!
John 5:46 ā€œFor had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.ā€
Isaiah 43:10, 11states, ā€œThat ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am He: before me there was no God formed, neither shall be there after meā€ (v. 10). ā€œI, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no Saviourā€ (v. 11).
Here again, the Word of God is saying the LORD God is Saviour and to believe and understand that I am He. This is our Saviour, Jesus, again saying He is the LORD God.
Jesus said in John 8:24, ā€œI said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am (He), ye shall die in your sins.ā€ Jesus also said to Thomas, ā€œThomas because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet believed.ā€
Let’s look at this verse where Jesus said this and see what He was talking about.
John 20:27, 28, 29:
ā€œThen saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and BE NOT FAITHLESS BUT BELIEVINGā€ (v.27).
ā€œAnd Thomas answered, and said unto him, MY LORD AND MY GODā€ (v.28).
ā€œJesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: BLESSED ARE THEY THAT HAVE NOT SEEN, AND YET BELIEVEDā€ (v.29).
ā€œBlessed are they that have not seen, and yet believedā€ (John 20:29).
Believed What? That ā€œHeā€, Jesus is Lord and God.
ā€œFor unto us A CHILD IS BORN, unto us A SON IS GIVEN: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: AND HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED Wonderful, Counselor,
THE MIGHTY GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peaceā€ (Isa. 9:6).
ā€œ. . . this is the true God and Eternal Lifeā€ (1 John 5:20).
ā€œAND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,
WHICH BEING INTERPRETED IS GOD WITH USā€ (Matt. 1:23).
ā€œAnd without controversy great is the mystery of Godliness:
GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the spirit, seen of angels,
preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up to gloryā€ (1 Tim. 3:16).
ā€œI came down from heavenā€ (John 6:38).
ā€œI am the living bread which came down from heavenā€ (John 6:51).
ā€œYour father Abraham rejoiced to see my dayā€ (John 8:56).
Jesus said in John 8:58, ā€œVerily, verily I say unto you before Abraham was I am.ā€
ā€œTHUS SAITH THE LORD, THY REDEEMER, THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL:
I AM THE LORD THY GODā€ (Isa. 48: 17).
Here again, the Word of God in Isaiah 48:17 is tel...
