Daily Leadership Alphabet

A to Z Guide In Management

About this book

In this age where advancements in technology have practically left off traditional and conventional norms of our life, it seems that what we only read before in fantasy stories or watched in James Bond and Mission Impossible movies have become realities that govern our normal lives. Science fiction stories, conquests of outer space and time realities (virtual, augmented, and 3D/4D realities) have accelerated to an extent that it has distorted our minds about what is real or not. These digital and electronic influences have ruled us to a point where the essence of interpersonal relationships""moreover, the greatest value of communication on a sphere that brings people closer by heart""have totally become impersonal without any sense of emotion or feeling. The simple thought of human beings becoming like robots or machines is a devastating outlook that, if left unabated, may be a near reality. The book aims to awaken our consciousness to stir our knowledge that man or woman is distinct from all creations. We are not only physical but also spiritual beings, gifted by our Creator with intelligence. The insights and examples shared in the book have been simplified by picking out the letters of the alphabet and relating them to words that have deep meanings in everyday life and in applications to daily leadership engagements.Furthermore, it has been devised to be a daily individual and group game to pick up insights and develop personal thinking in an interactive approach toward a wholesome and intellectually productive exercise that encourages communication and exchange of thoughts and experiences.

Attitude is the strong inner force that drives a person to perform, the essential ingredient to overcoming challenges and persevering in pursuit of a task or project. When a person is described to possess the right attitude in work or in a team competition, the person exudes an overall aura of enthusiasm that stands out, despite discouraging or seemingly hopeless circumstances.
As may often be expressed in sports that are tightly fought, even amidst pressure and intense tension, the team or individual that wins is said to have the ā€œheart of a champion,ā€ and it means that the team or individual demonstrated an ā€œattitudeā€ that delivered the win.
I once had a supervisor whom I relied on in accomplishing tasks that were difficult and sometimes even quite impossible to meet, given the time line and resources we had. Although I never showed any hint of discouragement to our personnel, what encouraged me to show confidence and not to give up was the supervisor’s attitude to every assignment I gave him, regardless of even severe circumstances. He always assured me in his response that resounded with an air of great conviction, without any iota of doubt, that kept the enthusiasm and faith of his team in exceptionally completing fieldwork assignments on time. His statement showed the attitude that mattered most in facing work challenges with the right mindset: ā€œWe can do it, boss, at all costs.ā€
Attitude is the spirit that drives a person to pursue tasks wholeheartedly regardless of circumstances or challenges that may have to be overcome.

Believe in yourself. It is the foremost step to succeed in the attainment of any aspiration that you strive to achieve. It may also be defined synonymously with the word self-confidence. A leader must display a posture of self-confidence that does not only strongly influence others to follow but most especially creates an atmosphere where the followers are able to work effectively, because they are assured that what they are doing is consistent with what their leader firmly espouses and supports.
In the Bible, the story of David and Goliath is a clear example of a young shepherd boy’s belief in one’s self. The battle-tested, toughness, and fully armored Philistine giant never deterred David in accepting the challenge in defense of the Israelite army with only a sling and five stones. We do know too, as Christians, that God’s spirit was with David which bolstered the latter’s confidence and belief in defeating Goliath.

Commitment is the ability to give of yourself without reservation, regardless of adverse circumstances, even beyond all odds. A committed employee to his/her job is consumed by the duties and responsibilities relative to the work. Time spent in work is never an issue. The employee reports early and is not at all bothered, even if he/she still works beyond the time off. The employee finds fulfillment in the performance of all his/her tasks.
There was a time when we had sales goals to hit, and since the services we offered were entirely new; the take-up was actually slow and difficult at the start. Everyone was aware and made to realize that they had an important role to ensure success. Since they were a critical part in achieving the objective, the passion to deliver and achieve the goal was evident in each person. It was essential that sales count was monitored daily and the committed number of days to attain the target was conveyed to everyone.
The original number of sales made for a week became the required new sales target for a day. It followed that the original sales ...
