Der Schriftsteller wurde 1966 in Ost-Berlin geboren und gehörte in den achtziger Jahren zu der im Ost-Berliner Bezirk Prenzlauer Berg ansässigen DDR-Avantgarde. Jansen schreibt Prosatexte und Gedichte, die in verschiedenen Zeitschriften erscheinen.Er erhielt u. a. 1990 den Anna-Seghers-Preis, 1992 das Alfred-Döblin-Stipendium und 1996 den Preis des Landes Kärnten beim Ingeborg-Bachmann-Wettbewerb in Klagenfurt.
