La cosubordinación es una relación entre unidades simétricas no integradas que muestran, sin embargo, rasgos de dependencia gramatical. En los distintos capítulos del libro se analizan con especial detenimiento los verbos de fase en construcciones cuasiperifrásticas (p. ej. Empezó a reír ); los predicados secundarios depictivos (p. ej. El hombre comió sentado ); los verbos de percepción con infinitivos, gerundios y participios (p. ej. Juan vio a María llorar ); las cláusulas de verbo finito en estructuras simétricas (p. ej. Ni bebo ni fumo ); y las combinaciones morfológicas como blanquiazul o pre- y posdoctoral.
