Ziele motivieren und verleihen dem Handeln Struktur und Bedeutung. Dies gilt insbesondere für Lebensziele, die als Orientierungspunkte für die individuelle Lebensgestaltung dienen. Die verschiedenen vorliegenden Verfahren zur standardisierten Erfassung von Lebenszielen weisen sehr unterschiedliche Binnenstrukturen auf, sind teilweise schwer zugänglich und unvollständig dokumentiert. Mit der vorliegenden Arbeit konnte ein breit angelegter, frei zugänglicher und vollständig dokumentierter Lebensziel-Fragebogen entwickelt werden. Die Validität wurde für die Zielgruppe der Studierenden geprüft und es wurde ein Fächervergleich durchgeführt. Die Lebensziel-Dimensionen liefern Hinweise auf Kongruenz zu existierenden Motivationsmodellen.
