Este trabajo aborda la profecía acogiéndose al legado de Santo Tomás, quien al estudiar los carismas enumerados por San Pablo, encauza su estudio desde el punto de vista del conocimiento. El distintivo de estos carismas consiste en que hacen llegar a los hombres el mensaje de la revelación divina por medio de algunos privilegiados a quienes estas gracias les son conferidas. Esta misión es de índole principalmente intelectual, puesto que su fin es proponer a la inteligencia humana los pensamientos y las intenciones de Dios. Así, es posible afirmar que la profecía es, ante todo, un don de conocimiento. El profeta recibe de lo alto no solo la luz intelectual que asegura y hace verídico ese conocimiento, sino que se le otorga la materia de este, o sea, lo que el Angélico Doctor llama acceptio specierum y el judicium de acceptis.
