Cartas desde el exilio a Gabriela Mistral (1942-1956) se han reunido treinta misivas escritas por Teresa Díez-Canedo, María Enciso, Maruja Mallo, Ana Maria Sagi, Francesca Prat i Barri, Margarita Nelken, Victoria Kent, Zenobia Camprubí, María Zambrano y María de Unamuno, protagonistas de la cultura española contemporánea que, al término de la Guerra Civil, se vieron obligadas a vivir en el destierro.Las circunstancias personales que rodearon su comunicación epistolar con la poeta chilena, Premio Nobel de Literatura de 1945, resultan tan dispares como lo fueron ellas mismas. Lo que las pone en relación hasta convertirlas en una significativa gavilla de cartas es la sororidad que revela un contacto postal que estuvo presidido por el afecto, la amistad y la solidaridad, sentimientos que también se observan en las epístolas que Gabriela Mistral les remitió a María Zambrano y a Margarita Nelken que se ofrecen al final del volumen, donde se rescatan asimismo dos textos en recuerdo de la autora de Tala escritos por María Enciso y por Victoria Kent.
