Ihr Auftrag ist es, die Not und das Leid der Kriegsgefangenen vor allem aus Deutschland und Ăsterreich-Ungarn an Ort und Stelle zu lindern. Die katastrophalen ZustĂ€nde in den Lagern suchen ihresgleichen. Tag fĂŒr Tag fordern KĂ€lte, Hunger, Schmutz und Seuchen ihre Opfer.Mehr als tausend mit dem Nötigsten beladene Eisenbahnwaggons rollen in der Zarenzeit â wĂ€hrend der Revolutionen und des BĂŒrgerkriegs â Richtung Osten in die ĂŒberfĂŒllten Lager. Insgesamt sind 77 Schweden an der HilfstĂ€tigkeit vor Ort beteiligt. Gleichzeitig werden diese wegen Deutschenfreundlichkeit und Spionage angeklagt; sie werden verhaftet und ihr Leben ist in Gefahr. Einige von ihnen kehren nicht mehr nach Hause zurĂŒck.Per Allan Olsson erzĂ€hlt ein StĂŒck schwedischer Geschichte ĂŒber humanitĂ€re EinsĂ€tze, die der internationalen HilfstĂ€tigkeit Schwedens und des Schwedischen Roten Kreuzes zum Durchbruch verhalfen.
