Durante buena parte del siglo XX, los indígenas arhuacos de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta sufrieron un proceso de despojo territorial, político, económico y cultural perpetrado por colonos y misioneros capuchinos, principalmente. Como estrategia de lucha frente a la colonización, diversos integrantes de este grupo indígena desarrollaron una interlocución con diferentes entidades del Estado colombiano, para dar a conocer los abusos, evidenciar la desposesión y reclamar la intervención de las autoridades nacionales y regionales. De este modo, analizando las transformaciones del contenido y los argumentos de sus reclamos, la intención de este libro es ampliar la noción respecto a qué se entiende como estrategia de lucha y argumentar que a los arhuacos y sus reivindicaciones los han atravesado condiciones históricas particulares a lo largo de las más de cinco décadas a las que se dedica este estudio.
