Spike Jonze begann seine Karriere mit einer Reihe von stilprĂ€genden Skater- und Musikvideos in den 1990er Jahren. Auch spĂ€ter noch pflegte er das Image des "wild boy", als Naturgenie unbelastet von jeder Schulbildung, und verkörperte damit beispielhaft das Bild des US-amerikanischen Independent-Films dieser Zeit. Aufsehen erregten seine ersten Kinofilme "Being John Malkovich" und "Adaptation" beim Publikum wie auch in der Medienwissenschaft und Filmkritik. Letztere sah ihn freilich lange Zeit nur im Schatten seines höchst eigensinnigen Drehbuchautors Charlie Kaufman. Aus dessen Schatten trat er jedoch bereits mit der Adaption von Maurice Sendaks "Where the Wild Things Are"; schließlich endgĂŒltig und spektakulĂ€r im Jahr 2013 mit seinem Film "Her" - mit dieser Liebesgeschichte zwischen Mensch und Computer-Betriebssystem gewann er den Oscar fĂŒr das beste Drehbuch.
