1 First Steps with SAP GUI

Are you motivated to carefully study this part of the book? May I, Wolfgang—the older, grayed-out one of the two authors—briefly tell you about my first steps into the SAP system to begin? I hope you agree because this will increase the probability of you reading this book with maximum motivation!
Unfortunately, I had to learn the SAP software mostly by the trial and error method when I started in 1992. That means by testing. Grrrmpff! I can’t number all the lightbulb moments I had afterwards or remember how often I shouted, “Why didn’t I know that before!” I spent so much valuable time doing processes with SAP in an awkward and annoying way with too much typing instead of just a few clicks.
This is exactly what we want to spare you from with this book. We want to convey the lightbulb moments of this incredibly powerful software right at the beginning of your SAP career; for this purpose, you should systematically go through the book and enjoy it. The SAP GUI chapters and sections build on each other.
