Während des Ersten Weltkriegs gerieten sie in die Wirren der Oktoberrevolution und flüchteten über Odessa und Konstantinopel zurück in die Schweiz. Niklaus von Steiger selbst verbrachte seine Jugend im Waisenhaus der BurgergemeindeBern, wurde Bankier und gründete in den 1960er-Jahren zusammenmit seinem Vetter Sergius Golowin, mit Franz Gertsch und Zeno Zürcher den legendären Kulturkeller Junkere 37.Inga Häusermann hat Niklaus von Steiger in langen Gesprächen befragt undpackt den Stoff in eine biografische Erzählung, in der Erleben und Erinnern verschwimmenund sich zu einem Lebensroman verdichten.
