(Henry Chadwick 1961)Erik Peterson (1890-1960) lehrte zwischen 1924 und 1929 als Professor an der Evangelisch-Theologischen Fakultät Bonn die Fächer Kirchengeschichte und Neutestamentliche Exegese. 1930 konvertierte er zur katholischen Kirche und lebte seit 1933 in Rom. Ab 1937 lehrte er dort am Päpstlichen Institut für Christliche Archäologie und wurde 1947 mit einem Extraordinariat für Patristik sowie das Verhältnis von Antike und Christentum betraut.
