Diese Diagnose wird im Völkerspruchzyklus des Buches (Am 1-2) in komprimierter Weise zusammengefasst und an den Beginn des Buches und programmatisch auch an den Beginn des biblischen Phänomens der Schriftprophetie gestellt.Der Verfasser untersucht in seiner historisch-kritisch angelegten Arbeit die literarische Gestalt und die theologische Aussage dieser Kapitel, um die theologischen Traditionsprozesse aufzuhellen, die den Völkerspruchzyklus Am 1-2 beeinflussen. Als maßgebenden traditionsgeschichtlichen Hintergrund dieser Kapitel arbeitet er dabei die Urgeschichte des Jahwisten mit seinem Leitwort des Bruders heraus.
