Der Prediger Johannes Tauler (1300-1361) bildet zusammen mit Meister Eckhart und Heinrich Seuse das Dreigestirn der sogenannten "deutschen Mystik". Von Tauler sind außer einem als echt anerkannten Brief nur Predigten überliefert. Er hat sein Denken nicht systematisch entwickelt. Die vorliegende Arbeit möchte das Denken Taulers im Gesamtzusammenhang seiner Predigten darstellen. Hierzu ist es unerlässlich, ihn von seinem Selbstverständnis als Prediger zu verstehen, der dabei in einem bestimmten historischen und geistesgeschichtlichen Kontext steht. Taulers Predigten sind nicht nur in den Kontext seiner Zeit eingebettet, sondern auch in eine weit hinter ihn zurückreichende und in ihren Folgen weit über ihn hinausreichende religiöse Bewegung des Mittelalters, die begleitet wird von einer innovativen philosophischtheologischen Denkbewegung. Dabei wird ein Stück hochmittelalterlicher Spiritualität und Theologie lebendig.
