Wie kann in Zeiten enormer soziokultureller Umbrüche die Herausbildung einer eigenen Identität gut gelingen? Auf verschiedenen Ebenen steht man nicht nur in Europa vor der Schwierigkeit, tragfähige Formen menschlicher Identitätsbildung zu finden. Angesichts dieser Lage muss es erstaunen, dass das identitätstheoretische Potential des Berufungsbegriffs, wie ihn das Zweite Vatikanische Konzil verwendet, bislang nicht systematisch erschlossen worden ist. Das hat damit zu tun, dass der Berufungsbegriff dieses Konzils überhaupt systematisch unerschlossen geblieben ist.Die vorliegende Arbeit schließt diese Lücke in der Forschung, indem sie die Verwendung des Berufungsbegriffs im Zweiten Vatikanum eingehend untersucht und sie als anschlussfähig für die Subjektivitätstheorie Charles Taylors erweist.
