Ein bisher wenig beachtetes Thema der teilweise sehr schwierigen Texte des Buches ist die Vaterschaft Gottes, das in den vielen Unheilstexten oftmals untergegangen ist und keine Relevanz gefunden hat. Die Autorin gibt nun genau diesem Thema mit einer synchronen Analyse Raum und belegt, dass gerade in den schwierigen Zeiten der Geschichte des Volkes Israel sich Gott als Vater offenbart. Die vier ausgewählten Stellen (Jer 3, 1-5; 3, 19-4, 2; Jer 31, 7-14; Jer 31, 15-22) belegen nicht nur durch den Begriff "Vater" das Wirken bzw. Dasein Gottes als Vater, sondern stellen darüber hinaus noch weitere Aspekte des Bildes in den Vordergrund (z. B. Löser/Erlöser; Hirte für "mein Volk"; Gastgeber). Der Ausblick in das biblische Umfeld und einige Momente des Vaterbildes in der Gesellschaft von heute unterstreichen die theologische Bedeutung und Aktualität des Themas.
