Sublime place des Vosges is a perfect starting point – this elegant city square is a triumph of architectural symmetry, and is also where you’ll find the Maison de Victor Hugo. Meander west along busy rue de Rivoli or backstreet rue du Roi de Sicile, with shops, cafes and bars. Essential for history buffs is the MĂ©morial de la Shoah.
Bearing north towards the fashionable Haut Marais, strips laden with hip drinking and dining options include rue Vieille du Temple, rue du Bourg Tibourg, and rue des Rosiers in the heart of the historic Jewish quarter Pletzl.
