Fremantle

Fremantle is a boho harbour town with sea-salty soul to burn – a tight nest of streets with an atmospherically faded cache of Victorian and Edwardian buildings. ‘Freo’ thrums with live music, craft-beer bars, boutique hotels, left-field bookshops, Indian Ocean seafood shacks, buskers and beaches – it’s a fabulous place to spend a few days.

Top SightFremantle Prison

This World Heritage Site is one of Fremantle’s most popular places to visit, but don’t underestimate how chilling it can be to walk into tiny cells and to see the trapdoors that open up beneath a hanging noose. Going at night further enhances the eerie experience, a very real one for the convicts and prisoners of the day.
