About This Book

The whirlybirds were predators. They ate the vicious animals like tigers and bears. But when their prey was exhausted, they turned to people. Today the crowd cheered from their windows to welcome the convertible, solo-spacecraft. Five-gun Charles DeCrabbe was flying into town to save the day.

When Whirlybirds Call, a Science Fiction Classic, was written by Frank Banta and first appeared in the Worlds of If Science Fiction magazine in January 1963.

Five-gun Charles DeCrabbe rode down the exact center of the street, looking neither to right or left, not acknowledging the screams of adulation that poured from the windows. His bare head was up, his mouth was pressed into firm, haughty lines of self-confidence and even his battle dress of dark green seemed to exude the aura of a competent killer.
