Passport to the University of Success

Keys' Steps to Discovering Your Full Potential

About this book

Passport to the University of Success is an invitational book for all audiences, mainly in Cameroon. For so long, youth has waited on politicians and academic leaders to solve their problems. Disappointments have been their answer so far. The author believes that the true solution is in our youth potential. In the midst of the socio-political and economic crisis, many people have decided to leave the country in the hope of finding greener pastures somewhere else. Vivien Key believes that Cameroon is the place to be, and people should become the solution of their problems. Citing several other Cameroonians who are making it, the author wants to awaken the ingeniousity of his young fellow countrymen, and prove that it does not matter where you are or where you are coming from. Success is available to each of us. The stories of those who have succeeded should be the catalyst and motivation of our own desire to win.

 Chapter 1
Where are we?
Genesis 3:9 relates that God asked Adam long time ago, “Where are you?”
I personally believe that God is asking the same question to each of us every day.
We are in trouble: our country, our youth, and each person who thinks things are not going well in their present life. It is of paramount importance that we accept this simple truth. That is the first step in the recovery process. None of us can escape from a prison if we don’t know that we are in one. The fact that young people are dying at sea and in the desert, the crime rate has reached an unprecedented level, politicians are not trustworthy, and people have lost trust and confidence in themselves and others, are few example of the environment we all leave in today. Who is to blame? The president? Western-developed countries? Our leaders? Our parents? The political system? Or? These institutions can all be blamed for our misfortunes, but the fact of the matter is that they are responsible for our happiness. The only person responsible for your happiness and life is you. Let’s admit that each of us is part of the problem we are facing today. We need to take full responsibility of what has happened to us so far. It is rather a paradox making these types of statement I know. How can I be responsible if our ministers and other leaders are embezzling money? How am I responsible of lack of education if my parents are not paying for me to go to school? How am I responsible if I don’t have a job? How I am responsible if English-speaking Cameroonian want to part away from their French-speaking brothers and sisters? My answer will shock you, but we have to admit it is just the truth: each of us is responsible for what is happening in our country and our lives. The day we accept this theory, boys will become men and girls will become women. Until then, we will not be able to continue our journey to rebranding our lives.
At this point, I assume that we all agree that change has to come from within ourselves first.
If you do agree with me, please fill out the space in the next sentence. If not, close this book and keep on doing what you have been doing.

I ________________ am responsible for everything that has happened to me so far.

 Chapter 2
Where are we coming from?
I heard the story of a female dog that had both her back legs amputated because she got into an accident, and surgery wasn’t much of a big help. She got used to walking by dragging her back while pulling herself with the front legs. She gave birth to six little dogs who curiously started dragging their back legs while pulling their front legs. This story is unfortunately the story of many people. They fall into the trap of doing what others do without questioning their behaviors. Ebenezer Njoh Mouelle defines these types of behavior as sheepy spirit, gregariousness, and unthought conformism. (1)
Social psychology teaches us that each of us is the product of our environment. What we have and who we are today is the result of following the disastrous rules imposed to us by the environment. Therefore, our attitudes and behaviors are determined by what we have been taught by the people we depend on. It is rather unfortunate that most people do not become who they want to become because they are programmed to live the way others want them to live. It is critical that we get out of that red zone given to us by the government, our parents, our friends, schools, and other people and organizations that have always dictated the way we think. In fact, we need to shift our paradigm. Bob Proctor defines a paradigm as a multitude of habits that we unconsciously carry with ourselves with no will to change. Truth be told, for things to change, we need to change the way we think by finding a way out of our old paradigm. I heard someone say that if we change the way we look at things, the things we look at will change. If you are ready to look at things and yourself from a different angle, fill out the next sentence and keep reading this book.

I _______________ am ready to look at things and myself from a different angle.
Chapter 3
Where are we going and what do we want?
“It does not matter where you are; you are nowhere compared to where you can go.”
—Bob Proctor
“All successful people have a goal. No one can get anywhere unless he knows where he wants to go and what he wants to be or do.”
—Norman Vincent Peale
“Life is 10% what happens to you and ٩٠٪ how you react to it.
—Charles R. Swindoll
Because our destination is more important than where we come from, it is judicious that we spend more time and energy on this chapter. That is why previous chapters (1 and 2) are shorter than chapter 3. Several steps will be mentioned in this chapter. But before designing all steps necessary to our progress, there needs to be faith. This book is not designed to convert anyone into a religious practitioner; it is only designed to help us build and use our faith.
The only premise of success: faith.
Have faith that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
Have faith that even though there is no guarantee you will reach your destination, you still believe that God gave you a dream that you should blindly follow.
Have faith that in spite of all odds going against you, you can see the finish line and get to your final destination. Please do not ask me how faith works; the only thing I will tell you is that it works, and it is the result of a process that start with the repetition of an affirmation that turns into belief and creates miracles.
Faith has been defined as the ability to see things that do not exist. How can we see something that does not exist? People ask all the time. To answer this question, I will join Price Pritchett when he says that the absence of evidence is not the evidence of the absence. In simple words, just because we don’t see something does not mean that thing does not exist. Do we see the air and the oxygen? Do we see the Wi-Fi? No. Yet we use them on a daily basis. I heard someone else said that faith is like a toothbrush: each of us should use it individually several times a day. The biggest lesson to share here is that faith is not to be shared or copied. It is individually nurtured and developed. It is at the basis of all achievements and the catalyst for the creative process that leads to success. Bob Proctor always says, “If you see something in your mind, you can touch it with your hands,” which leads me to the trilogy of success: be, do, and have. You have to see things in your mind first.
You have to be what you want to be in your mind after.
You have to do what it takes to achieve your dream.
Consequently, you will have what you aimed at.

As it pertains to faith, let m...
