Das Frauenstudium der Medizin war in Europa und Amerika Teil der Emanzipation aus den engen sozialen Rollen, die im 19. Jahrhundert den Frauen zugewiesen waren. Der vorliegende Band stellt das Erscheinen von Ärztinnen in den Kontext des frühen Feminismus und der regional unterschiedlichen Frauenrechtsbewegungen.
