Obwohl 1962 und 1979 in differierenden Textfassungen erschienen, gilt «Das Judenauto» in der Forschung bisher nicht als Zensurfall im DDR-Literaturbetrieb. Die erste historisch-kritische Fühmann-Studie erfasst drei publizierte sowie zwei unbekannte Textzeugen synoptisch und belegt so die Selbstzensur durch den Autor sowie die Fremdzensur. Editions- und Rezeptionsgeschichte sowie eine Textanalyse rahmen den Variantenvergleich und enthalten überraschende Resultate, die neue Sichtweisen auf dieses Werk und dessen Autor ermöglichen. Auf der begleitenden CD kommt Franz Fühmann selbst zu Wort.
