Diese Studie thematisiert die «segnali discorsivi» (dt. «Diskursmarker», «Diskurspartikeln») des Italienischen. Der Autor diskutiert zunächst verschiedene Klassifizierungsansätze und geht zentralen Forschungsfragen wie der kategoriellen Abgrenzung nach. In einer korpusbasierten Detailanalyse veranschaulicht er schließlich das breite Funktionsspektrum der «segnali discorsivi» am Beispiel von «praticamente» und «comunque»: Die Untersuchung von 100 Audio-Aufnahmen zeigt, dass die Partikeln zahlreiche Funktionen auf allen Ebenen des Diskurses (metatextuell, interaktional, kognitiv) übernehmen können.
