Der Band gibt einen Einblick in den gegenwärtigen Stand der slowakischen Literaturwissenschaft, insbesondere der Komparatistik. Die Beiträge beruhen auf den Vorträgen einer Ringvorlesung, die durch eine Kooperation der Wiener Abteilung für Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaft mit dem Institut für Weltliteratur der Slowakischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Bratislava entstanden ist. Die behandelten Themen reichen von dem Einfluss der indischen Kultur auf die deutschsprachige Literatur über die Problematik der Übersetzung in der Rezeption der Literaturen im mitteleuropäischen Raum, Konzeptualisierungsansätze zur literarischen Kommunikation, die Rezeption Franz Kafkas in der Tschechoslowakei bis hin zu postkolonialen Untersuchungen der afrikanischen Literaturen.
