Nicht Folter und Kreuzestod dienen dem Heil, sondern die Gegenwart Gottes in Jesus. In der Begegnung mit Jesus erfahren die Suchenden Gott selbst und seine heilsame Güte. Der Mensch ist nach Lukas nicht von Grund auf sündig, sondern er ist ein Kind Gottes, das auf Abwege geraten kann. So spricht er nicht vom sündigen Wesen des Menschen, sondern von seinen sündigen Taten, von denen er umkehren sollte. Der Umkehr folgt der Empfang des Heils Gottes, das Leben bedeutet und sich im ethischen Handeln äußert.
