Dimitrie Cantemir (1673 – 1723) fu un filosofo, letterato, musicologo, compositore, etnografo e geografo. Nato in Moldavia da madre nobile e padre comandante dell'esercito ottomano, fu uno dei primi a catalogare e descrivere la musica ottomana colta e popolare. In questo adattamento per orchestra scolastica gli strumenti in partitura sono flauto, arpa, violino, marimba ed un coro, ma può essere facilmente adattato anche per altri organici, a seconda degli strumenti presenti nella scuola.
