Quest'ultima sperimentazione, perdente rispetto al modello di prosa imposto dal Manzoni, sarà ripresa più tardi da D'Annunzio. ll Duca d'Atene fu composto a Parigi nel 1836 e pubblicato, ancora a Parigi, l'anno successivo. Niccolò Tommaseo, (1802-1874), è stato un linguista, scrittore e patriota.
