Punto di snodo: il riconoscimento della «contea» e la traslazione del vescovato da Trischines/Trium Tabernarum a Catanzarij. I protagonisti: Goffredo di Loritello comes Catacensis e il pontefice Callisto II. Sono, altresì, ricostruiti sulla base delle risultanze documentali lo sviluppo urbanistico, economico, sociale e religioso di una comunità in trasformazione e le complesse vicende prosopografiche della famiglia Loritello fino all'ultima erede, la contessa Clemenza. Nei tempi di Federico II emergono le nuove figure dei conti Riccardo Fallucca e Anselmo de Justingen e si profila quella del capostipite della famiglia Ruffo: Pietro de Calabria.
