This book for the first time examines the underlying causes of animal welfare problems in zoological and recreational parks throughout South East Asia and suggests scientific ways to improve professional standards. This monograph gives brief account of a variety of common problems zoos and recreational parks face in terms of ethics and welfare today. It introduces basic welfare problems and the concept of zoo assessments and how they improve welfare standards for many of the captive animals.
