Aquaculture
About this book
Aquaculture in recent times has assumed importance as a source of affordable protein for masses with a significant potential for supplementing livelihood in a rural economy. Now its contribution to the economic growth and nutrition security is well recognized nationally and globally. The fish production in the country has witnessed eight-fold growth from the 0.82 million tones in the 1950s to over 6.4 million tones at present in which inland fisheries including aquaculture contribute 3.4 million metric tones. This is due to advanced technological support. The importance of aquaculture in India or any other countries can be realized because the actual food production is not adequate to its actual demand. Moreover, the population is increasing in geometrical progression whereas the production is increasing in arithmetical progression resulting into food shortage. However, highly developed technology and scientific knowledge is being applied to enhance the production level. The importance of aquaculture in present scenario becomes very significant, as in our country aquaculture is now developing as a promising industry which besides producing protein, will generate income, provide employment to the rural people, earn foreign currency and also help to alleviate poverty. The present book entitled "Aquaculture" is unique in its kind and it is expected that the teachers, research scholars, farmers, concerned government and non-government personal, entrepreneurs and other will find it very useful. It contains all the sections of aquaculture. The book, for sure, will help us to accomplish "Blue Revolution" or "Aquaplosion" which is also expected to promote food security of the country.
