Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) are very harmful pests for agricultural, horticultural and forest plants. They suck the cell sap and affect photosynthesis and yield of crops. They also act as vector for several viral diseases of crops. Hence, their control on crops is must. The book contains five chapters. The chapter first is devoted for general introduction of aphids and review of literature. The chapter second deals with biology of aphids which enlights life cycle pattern, fecundity and reproduction in aphids. Third chapter deals with 30 existing species of pest aphids causing damage to crops cereals, pulses, oil seeds, fibers, sugarcane, vegetables, ornamental plants, horticulture and forest under which a detail information is given on distribution, taxonomy (identification), life cycle, nature of damage, host plants, and control measures. In control measures, more emphasis is given on ecofriendly control measures. The chapter four is devoted for 20 new species of pest aphids found on above mentioned crops and cover all aspects given under third chapter. Newly described species referes to Aphis acasae, Melanaphis valgari, Toxopotera ambi, Rhopalosiphum cashivi, R kolhapurensis, Acyrthosiphon calatropi, A vatani, Bravicornye capsici, Pentalonia keli, Indomyzus glarice, Myzus ajari, M terminalae, Macrosiphum koyenensis, Neomyzus koyani, Ceratovacuna bambusa, Greenidea Greeinda fhanasae, G G bhimashankari, Eutrichosiphum paratrichosiphum pisidiumi, E N radhanagari, etc. This book is enriched with a rich bibliography, large number of illustrations and an exhaustive index for easier reference hunting. The unique book contains both, basic and applied aspects of pest aphids and extremely useful for protecting various crops from aphids.
