Social area analysis can be used to identify the inequalities in the socio-political and environmental conditions at micro level. Theoretical basis for the identification of the wellbeing or quality of life of the population is also incorporated. A practical account of social area analysis for the fifty-one wards of the city of Calicut using the method of factor analysis is given which can be used for the planners and academic researchers. "
