Un aspecto poco conocido de la historiografĂa artĂstica del exilio republicano español es la experiencia concentracionaria por la que pasaron decenas de artistas, recluidos inicialmente en campos de concentraciĂłn en del sur de Francia y del norte de Ăfrica, y mĂĄs tarde en los Dulag de trĂĄnsito y en los Stalag para prisioneros de guerra, a los que seguirĂan los campos de exterminio nazis y los gulags soviĂ©ticos. Las creaciones fueron debidas a un sentimiento de repulsa encaminado a testimoniar las tendencias mĂĄs destructivas de la miseria humana, recreando las imĂĄgenes del terror, como si se tratase de un acto final de rebeldĂa que les permitĂa recuperar su dignidad. Superando la estĂ©tica, alambraron el arte haciendo suyo el proverbio de que «una imagen vale mĂĄs que mil palabras». Pero en realidad, fueron necesarias muchas mĂĄs para dar testimonio puntual de aquel terrible drama. Este volumen se centra en un aspecto poco conocido de la historiografĂa artĂstica del exilio republicano español: la reclusiĂłn de los artistas en campos de concentraciĂłn. Las creaciones fueron debidas a un sentimiento de repulsa encaminado a testimoniar las tendencias mĂĄs destructivas de la miseria humana, como si se tratase de un acto final de rebeldĂa que les permitĂa recuperar su dignidad.
