Esta obra recorre los acontecimientos políticos que marcaron el final del califato de Córdoba y, a partir de aquí, analiza cómo se manifestaron los cambios de poder y de lealtades en las acuñaciones de moneda de las taifas. Una de las mayores aportaciones de esta obra es el estudio de las monedas anónimas y de difícil atribución, que se tratan detalladamente, identificando las cecas de ciudades como Almería, Badajoz o Valencia. Las conclusiones que se derivan del análisis numismático es que, de una manera u otra, los diferentes reyes buscaron la forma de emitir moneda sin transgredir las normas legales, unos invocando imam tras imam, todos legítimos, otros mediante argucias, disimulando sus intenciones, pero siempre intentando no sobrepasar los límites del orden establecido, que reservaba esta prerrogativa a la autoridad califal.
