Ángeles Durán, doctora honoris causa por la Universitat de València, se ha preocupado por la inserción del trabajo no remunerado en el análisis de la estructura social y por los vínculos entre las relaciones de poder y los procesos de producción de conocimiento científico. El cuidado se presenta, así, como una formidable fuente de recursos invisibles no incorporados al análisis económico micro ni macro, que también debe verse como un coste para los hogares y para las personas sobre quienes recae, mayoritariamente mujeres. Más allá de su dimensión científica, la autora plantea el reconocimiento social del cuidado, un trabajo no remunerado que no se distribuye por libre acuerdo, por un pacto social e intergeneracional explícito, sino que es el resultado de fuerzas coercitivas históricas que lo han asignado a las mujeres.
