La sorveglianza da parte dei governi e la cultura dell'impunità hanno continuato a negare a molte persone i loro diritti.
Questo rapporto rende merito a tutte le persone che si sono attivate in difesa dei diritti umani in tutto il mondo, spesso in circostanze difficili e pericolose.
Il testo contiene le principali preoccupazioni e le richieste di Amnesty International ed è una lettura fondamentale per chi elabora strategie politiche, per gli attivisti e per chiunque sia interessato ai diritti umani.
"L'anno da poco concluso ha messo a durissima prova la capacità dell'intero sistema internazionale di risposta alle crisi e agli sfollamenti di massa di persone, che si è rivelato tristemente inadeguato. Era dalla seconda guerra mondiale che i flussi di sfollati e di persone in cerca di rifugio non raggiungevano le dimensioni globali attuali. Questa situazione è stata in parte alimentata dal perdurare del conflitto armato in Siria, con ormai più della metà della popolazione in fuga, oltre i confini nazionali o sfollata internamente al paese. Finora i tentativi di trovare una soluzione al conflitto non sono serviti a nient'altro che a mettere in luce divisioni globali e regionali".
