A Prijedor, in Bosnia Erzegovina, in quella che oggi si chiama Repubblica serba di Bosnia (Rs), nella primavera-estate del 1992 succedono cose spaventose. Sembra d’essere tornati ai tempi del nazismo. Gli ultranazionalisti serbo-bosniaci vogliono sradicare i “non serbi” attraverso due strumenti: deportazione e omicidio. Vengono creati per quest’ultimo scopo tre campi di concentramento. Che ben presto diventano luoghi di uccisione di massa. Nomi tremendi: Omarska. Keraterm. Trnopolje. In quest’ultimo luogo – composto da una scuola, una casa del popolo e un prato – vengono recluse tra le quattromila e le settemila persone. È a Trnopolje, nel maggio del 1992, che è ambientata la storia raccontata da questo libro. Una storia di fantasia, ma poggiata su solide basi storiche e di testimonianza. Un libro che non è solo un romanzo ma anche un reportage di quanto accaduto troppi pochi anni fa e troppo vicino a noi, per non sapere.
