Centinaia di minorenni ogni anno lasciano il Kosovo per raggiungere l’Europa. Arrivano in Italia stretti nel loro tenace orgoglio, carichi di aspettative per un futuro riscatto economico e un permesso di soggiorno. Entrano illegalmente sfruttando il sistema dei passeurs. Vivono nelle comunità di accoglienza e per la legge sono minori stranieri non accompagnati. Tra di loro si chiamano shqipe, identificandosi nella comune radice etnica albanese. Molti vivono il periodo dell’accoglienza con fame di ribellione verso l’autorità, di avventure sessuali, di microcriminalità. Hanno poco tempo e una vivida urgenza di godersi la gioventù strappata dal Kosovo, tra maldestre avventure e conservazione dei propri riferimenti culturali. Con la maggiore età, passano dall’essere adolescenti trapiantati in un contesto sociale inedito ad aspiranti adulti con un permesso di soggiorno regolare, un lavoro e un affitto da pagare. Escono dalle tutele delle comunità e si fanno “custodi di se stessi”, come riflette Erion, il ragazzo di Malishevë narratore della sua e delle altrui giovani vite in divenire.
