Hoher Workload (u.a. lange Arbeitszeiten, Zeitdruck) und intensive Interaktionsarbeit (u.a. hohe Patientenzahl, emotionale Dissonanz) sind zentrale arbeitsbezogene Belastungskonstellationen von Klinikärzten. Die Frage nach dem Zusammenspiel der Belastungsfaktoren im Hinblick auf die Entstehung emotionale Erschöpfung von Klinikärzten ist bislang nicht untersucht worden. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird aus theoretischen Befunden ein arbeitsbezogenes Erklärungsmodell emotionaler Erschöpfung von Klinikärzten abgeleitet und empirisch überprüft. Die Angaben der befragten Ärzte können das Modell weitgehend bestätigen. Dennoch zeigen sich bedeutsame Diskrepanzen zwischen der Perspektive der Ärzte und grundlegenden arbeitswissenschaftlichen Befunden. Die Ergebnisse werden im Hinblick auf die angewandten Forschungsmethoden sowie Implikationen für Forschung und Praxis diskutiert.
