Eine entsprechende Zusammenstellung fehlte bislang. Bezüglich der korrelativen Differenzierung der vorgenannten Schwerpunkte wurden dabei u.a. folgende Aspekte detaillierter berücksichtigt: besondere Energiesparzustände (Torpor), verschiedene Fortbewegungstypen (Lauf, Flug, Schwimmen), systematische Abhängigkeiten sowie Embryo- und Ontogenese und die post-ontogenetische Altersabhängigkeit. Das Buch ist vor allem für Tierärzte, Humanmediziner (für Vergleichszwecke) und für Biologen von Interesse.Die drei Autoren arbeiten gemeinsam im Fachbereich 15 (Biowissenschaften) der Johann-Wolfgang Goethe Universität in Frankfurt am Main. Sie haben eine jahrzehntelange experimentelle Erfahrung nicht nur auf dem Gebiet von Herz- und Kreislaufphysiologie. Der besondere Focus liegt dabei auf Vögeln. Aus ihrer Feder stammen zahlreiche Publikationen zur Thematik.
