Die Kaskadennutzung ist ein vieldiskutiertes Konzept zur ressourcenschonenden Verwendung nachwachsender Rohstoffe, insbesondere von Holz. Zu welchem Zeitpunkt stofflich genutzte Rohstoffe am Ende ihrer Nutzungszeit wieder dem Energiemarkt zur Verfßgung stehen, ist unter anderem von den Produktlebensdauern und der Anzahl der hintereinandergeschalteten Nutzungsphasen abhängig. In dieser Arbeit wird ein allgemeines Modell zur Quantifizierung des Kaskadennutzungseffektes auf Grundlage des System Dynamics-Ansatzes unter Einbeziehung nichtlinearer Lebensdauerverteilungsfunktionen und variabler Zuflussraten entwickelt, mit dessen Hilfe modellbasierte Berechnungen zur dynamischen Entwicklung von Produktpools in kaskadierenden Nutzungssystemen durchgefßhrt werden. Angewendet wird das formale Modell auf sieben Szenarien unterschiedlicher Nutzungsintensität und Kaskadierungstiefe. Ausgewertet werden die Szenariorechnungen anhand von Kennzahlen, die die Dynamik der Kohlenstoffbindung im Produktpool und die Rßckfßhrungszeitpunkte wiedergeben.
