Die Fragestellung, ob und warum Konglomerate im Vergleich zu fokussierten Unternehmen aus Sicht des Kapitalmarkts einen Mehrwert realisieren (positiver Bewertungsunterschied bzw. Diversification Premium) oder Wert vernichten (negativer Bewertungsunterschied bzw. Diversification Discount), ist bis dato nicht eindeutig beantwortet worden. Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich dieser Fragestellung und untersucht empirisch die Existenz des Bewertungsunterschieds sowie zwei potenzielle Einflussfaktoren des Bewertungsunterschieds: Überinvestition und Managementkompetenz. Die Ergebnisse weisen darauf hin, dass am deutschen Kapitalmarkt ein Bewertungsunterschied existiert, und zwar ein Diversification Premium. Des Weiteren deuten die Ergebnisse auf einen negativen Zusammenhang zwischen Überinvestition und der Höhe des Bewertungsunterschieds hin. In Bezug auf die Managementkompetenz findet sich kaum Evidenz für einen positiven Zusammenhang zwischen Managementkompetenz und der Höhe des Bewertungsunterschieds.
