With the move towards nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB), building performance modelling has become an inseparable part of building and plant design. Indeed current and future Building Regulations require the use of building simulation tools to predict the energy performance of buildings in order to meet specific CO2 emission targets. Invariably, the design of buildings and environmental control systems often require the use of different types of simulation tools, e.g. dynamic thermal modelling (DTM), lighting simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), plant and control systems, etc. Consequently, in this vastly revised Application Manual a wide range of building performance modelling tools are considered. The aim is to offer the user useful guidance on the application of different types of simulation tools, best practice approach, and quality assurance procedures in applying these tools. The target readerships of this Manual are building services engineering practices but the Manual should also be of interest to architects, developers, facility managers and building users.
