« L'Écho de nos voix » est un essai sur la littérature dite « du vacuum », et qui est propre à l'Ontario français. L'auteur pose les questions suivantes: Qu'est-ce qui distingue l'espace littéraire franco-ontarien de l'institution littéraire québécoise ou même de la république des lettres? Au delà des différences d'amplitude caractérisant chacun de ces milieux, n'y a-t-il pas des conditions particulières d'émergence, depuis 1973, d'une littérature propre à l'Ontario français? Y a-t-il lieu de rendre compte de l'impact du vacuum social et culturel dans lequel s'est développée la littérature franco-ontarienne? C'est ce à quoi tentent de répondre les quatre conférences regroupées dans « L'Écho de nos voix ». La première présente la problématique des littératures du vacuum, alors que les trois autres en explorent les applications, en éclairant respectivement les trajectoires littéraires de Jean Éthier-Blais, d'André Paiement et de Robert Dickson.
