About This Book
This Lighting Guide has been written to assist facilities managers who are required to maintain, modify and update electric lighting installations.A lighting installation is made up of luminaires, lighting controls and emergency lighting. The lighting installation may be existing and require periodic maintenance and small works modifications or it may be a wholly new replacement lighting installation. This guide is based on interior lighting and external lighting, but does not cover highways lighting as this is considered a separate niche subject outside of the scope of this guide. As part of facilities management, the facilities manager will need to undertake or facilitate the following works: — Maintenance of lighting installations: this typically involves lamp replacement, the cleaning of louvres or diffusers, periodic wiring testing and emergency lighting testing and maintenance.— Small works: the replacement or repair of luminaires or small modifications involving relocations, omissions or additions to the lighting installation.— Medium to large works: the removal and replacement of a lighting installation. This could be an entire department, an entire floor, an entire building or car park lighting. The works could involve fitting new luminaires and controls to the existing wiring or new wiring and new luminaires and lighting controls.
